Nishat Bagh: The Garden of Joy

Nestled on the eastern shore of Dal Lake, Nishat Bagh is one of the most stunning Mughal gardens in Kashmir. Built in 1633 by Asif Khan, the brother of Empress Nur Jahan, this garden is a masterpiece of Persian-style landscaping, featuring 12 terraced levels representing the zodiac signs.

With the Zabarwan Mountains as its backdrop and the shimmering Dal Lake at its feet, Nishat Bagh offers a tranquil retreat filled with cascading fountains, flowing water channels, and centuries-old chinar trees. It's not just a garden—it's a work of art.

“In the heart of Kashmir, Nishat Bagh whispers the poetry of nature and history in every bloom and breeze.”

As you walk up the terraced steps, each level reveals new perspectives—of finely manicured lawns, blooming flower beds, and symmetrical water channels. The Mughal architecture is evident in the beautifully carved pavilions and stone walkways.

What to See at Nishat Bagh

Don’t miss the central water cascade, which flows from the top terrace all the way down to the lake. The garden is especially enchanting during spring and autumn when the flowers burst in color and chinar leaves turn golden-red.
